Chairperson
Russell Mills qualified as a registered general nurse in 1988 and has 31 years neuroscience experience and joined the Newcastle DBS team in 2013. He is an independent prescriber and a member of the Newcastle Trust non-medical prescribers committee. Since 2003 he has been the lead nurse for patients with intrathecal drug pump delivery systems. Russell is very involved with teaching both locally and nationally. He works as part of a dedicated MDT team and thoroughly enjoys his role.

Beth completed her BSc in Adult Nursing in 2003 and has worked predominantly in the field of Neurosurgery since this time. She joined the Oxford Functional Neurosurgical Team at the John Radcliffe Hospital, Oxford, in 2008 where she is now the Nursing Lead for the Surgical Movement Disorder Deep Brain Stimulation Service. The service cares for those undergoing DBS and lesional surgery for Parkinson’s disease, Dystonia and Tremor. She is an independent prescriber and has a post graduate certificate in Health Sciences (Nursing). She enjoys taking an active role in educational programmes run within the Neurosciences department, and loves working as a DBS Specialist Nurse.

Sarah is a Paediatric Advanced Nurse Practitioner working with the Complex Motor Disorder Service at the Evelina London Children’s Hospital, one of the largest paediatric DBS centres internationally. She has over 9 years’ experience working with deep brain stimulation and other motor disorder management and treatment strategies including intrathecal baclofen and polypharmacy. Within paediatric movement disorders her speciality is dystonia covering genetic, acquired, idiopathic and neurodegenerative aetiologies, she has experience in DBS programming, troubleshooting, assessment and selection of all subgroups. Her current interests include transitioning young people with movement disorders to adult services and the positive impact that deep brain stimulation can have on painful dystonia. She believes wholly in multi-disciplinary care and the importance of life long support

LEAKE

Alison Leake has been a Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist since 2004. The DBS service started at St Georges Hospital, South West London in 2016 and Alison began her DBS involvement at that time.At St Georges Hospital the Tertiary service supports all three non oral therapy treatments, it is the regional neuro science centre and also runs the local Movement disorder service. Alison works alongside 2 other PDCNS and a larger team of Neurologist, Neurosurgeons and researchers.Alison Is also part of the Clinical leadership Team for Parkinsons Uk Excellance Network and heads the NMP Forum within the Trust.
JOSEPH CANDELARIO-MCKEOWN

Joseph Candelario-Mckeown is a surgical movement disorder – deep brain stimulation –nurse specialist for 10 years at Unit of Functional Neurosurgery – National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queen square, London. He completed his Bachelor of Science in Nursing in the Philippines in 1995. He worked as a chief nurse in his local hospital prior to moving to UK. He worked in NHNN since 2002. He was a deputy nurse manager in a neurology ward before he was inspired to work in movement disorder speciality. He recently graduated with a Master’s degree in Advance Nursing Practice with distinction.

Max qualified as a RN in 1989 and has working in various roles mainly in Neurology and Spinal. She became a Parkinson's Disease Nurse Specialist (PDNS) in 2008 in Nottingham and became interested in Deep Brain stimulation. She is now the lead nurse for this role and been instrumental in developing and maintain this service, as well as continuing the role as a PDNS.
Nottingham is an advanced PD centre offering DBS (PD, dystonia and tremor), Duodopa and APO, ensuring that patients being referred to the service are offered the most appropriate treatment. Max is an Independent Nurse Prescriber and studied PD at level 7 (PG Cert Advanced Practice). She works as part of a dedicated MDT team and thoroughly enjoys this role

I am a Consultant Neurologist at Salford Royal NHS Foundation Trust and an Honorary Senior Lecturer in Neuroscience at Manchester University. I jointly run the Salford Royal Parkinson’s disease and Movement Disorders service and am lead Neurologist on the Greater Manchester Deep Brain Stimulation Programme. I am Neurodegeneration lead for Greater Manchester. I have recently been appointed Chair of the UK Parkinson’s disease Clinical Studies group, which organises Parkinson’s disease research throughout the UK. My research interests include pain in Parkinson’s disease, biomarkers in Parkinson’s disease, and Deep Brain Stimulation.
MARGARET KAMINSKA

Dr Kaminska is a Consultant Paediatric Neurologist who finished her training in Poland and has developped special interest in paediatric movement disorders working with MDT Complex Motor Disorders Team in Evelina London. She has been involved in paediatric DBS since 2007 and is passionate about making children's lives better by considering all aspects and modalities for the management of movement disorders. She has some very good friends among nurses, supports their professional development and independence and believes they are the core and heart of any DBS team.

Neil Barua is a Consultant Neurosurgeon at Southmead Hospital in Bristol. He specialises in deep brain stimulation in both adults and children for movement disorders and also brain tumour surgery. He undertook neurosurgical training in Bristol and Plymouth, and completed a PhD investigating novel methods of drug delivery to the brain for neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s disease, as well as for the treatment of brain tumours. His current interests include robot-assisted surgery, advanced imaging methods and outcome analysis following DBS surgery.
